  • Pomegranate Drinks

I just took the Master Formula, and I swallowed it down with something called Langers Power Pomegranate. It calls itself vitamin enhanced water, though its actual vitamin content is almost nil. I stand it up next to the ACTUAL multivitamin I just took, and the it's laughable that they can put the word "vitamin" on this drink.

Anyway, sorry to keep this post short, but my skills are in high demand elsewhere, so I'll just wrap this up by saying you should check out the new arctic northern omega 3 supplements. They are some of the best (not the best, some of the best).

  • Diet Snapple For Dieters or not?

Just had a diet Snapple with my lunch. Originally I had planned to go with an all natural white-green-jasmine tea. I'd had another tea by the same brand about a week ago and it was absolutely awful. I should have heeded the tea advice from that health blog.

But, this week might have been different? I was going to push down a second serving like it would magically taste better or something when I passed by the Snapple isle. Snapple, also tea. About $0.75 cheaper, which means something in my book right now, since I am trying to save as much money as possible for the coming months (erasing credit card debt, blah).

And that's the point I realized I'd almost been taken by the marketing machine. There wasn't really a difference in the ingredients in the two products, but one was from the organic "natural" isle of the Ralph's grocery store, so I just assumed it would be better for me.

So, I bought the Snapple. And the paleo diet continues.

  • Liquid Vitamins

I've read quite a deal of hype about liquid vitamins. They are often called "sublingual vitamins" or "colloital vitamins." And it's not just essential vitamins and minerals that come in liquid form. Most homeopathic remedies are colloital (though by now homeopathy has become the modern day snake oil scam). Plenty of oils like flax seed oil, or oregano, come in liquid form (obviously as oils). I've even heard of colloital silver, though ingested silver actually makes your skin turn blue.

Despite all the hype, there's just not much of a benefit to taking liquid forms of vitamins, unless you're afraid of swallowing capsules.

Once a hard or soft gel cap dissolves, the nutrients are absorbed right into your system, they make it to your bloodstream just as quickly as any liquid form of nurtrient. Why? Because the body is 70% water. It turns everything you ingest into a "sublingual" form, almost instantaneously in the case of capsules.

So, if you're trying to get washboard abs, know that you don't have to deal with sugary water vitamins. And be sure to buy vitamin capsules at the vitamin world!

  • Different Kinds of Coke

These are the types of Diet Coke I can think of off the top of my head:

    Diet Coke

    Diet Cherry Coke

    Coca-Cola Zero

    Diet Caffeine Free Coke

    Diet Coke with Lime

    Vitamin Diet Coke

    Diet Vanilla Cherry Coke

    Coke 2

The last one has actually disappeared off the shelves. Coke 2. It was a compromise between diet and regular coke. About half the calories of regular coke, but still a good amount of sweetness. I used to make Coke 2 at the movie theater before Coke 2 ever came in existence. I still do, though not as often these days as I'm trying to cut back on the calories. Anyway, my point here, is Coca-Cola has done a fine job of creating enough variety to fill as much shelf space as possible to push out competition. Or maybe they are just concerned with orthorexia nervosa. Who knows, ultimately it all boils down to how to find person with diet coke.

  • Blueberry Juice et al.

Blueberry Juice and Pomegranate Juice are a tricky realm when talking about diet drinks. There is a wave of antioxidant promotion going on in the market place right now, which is generally a good thing. However, there a certain pitfalls.

The first thing to note whenever buying a juice is whether you're getting pure blueberry/pomegranate juice or whether your just getting apple juice with food coloring and high fructose corn syrup loaded in. A good percentage of juices (even Snapple) out there are simply apple sugar water.

POM is a good example of an actual pure juice. POM has a whole line of sugary loaded pomegranate juices, but they also sell the pure thing, and it is clearly marked on the front of the label. Unfortunately, they are also expensive as hell, costing up to $5 a single serving bottle!

So, once you've found pure blueberry, now the real debate comes in. You know it is loaded with antioxidants, but unfortunately, blueberries (and berries in general) contain a high amount of sugar. Even though it is the natural fructose--which is the good kind of sugar--Sugar is sugar, and that means calories, which means this isn't really a diet drink, it's just a fun way to get some antioxidant. But really, you could be getting ten times the amount of antioxidant just by taking a bilberry extract supplement, which is much cheaper than a glass of pure blueberry juice every day. You can find these vitamins online, and other supplements that help with how to deal with stress as well.
